ACI World: in rallentamento la crescita passeggeri a dicembre
Il traffico passeggeri globale è cresciuto del 4,9% a dicembre 2019 rispetto allo stesso mese 2018. La rilevazione di ACI World (Consiglio internazionale degli Aeroporti), che segna una fine positiva per il 2019 dopo un anno difficile per il settore del trasporto aereo, arriva quando gli effetti dell’attuale epidemia di COVID-19 iniziano a comparire nei risultati del traffico 2020.
Sulla base di un campione preliminare di dati dei principali aeroporti commerciali, la crescita del traffico passeggeri totale è stata del 3,4%, continuando un trend di moderazione rispetto al +6,4% del 2018.I risultati preliminari di fine anno del settore del trasporto merci si sono attestati al -2,5%, quasi sei punti percentuali al di sotto del +3,4% registrato nel 2018. Sebbene negli ultimi tre mesi dell’anno era iniziata una lenta ripresa dei volumi di merci, tale tendenza al rialzo sarà inevitabilmente influenzata dall’emergenza globale in corso.
“Con le guerre commerciali in corso e le crescenti tensioni geopolitiche in Medio Oriente, l’ambiente globale nel 2019 è stato sicuramente una sfida per il trasporto aereo – ha spiegato la direttrice generale ACI, Angela Gittens -. Sebbene una ripresa per l’industria del trasporto merci stia iniziando a emergere nella parte finale dell’anno, ora affrontiamo una crisi sanitaria che potrebbe reprimere la tendenza al rialzo e portarci in un altro anno instabile nel 2020.
La situazione in via di sviluppo potrebbe non essere uno shock momentaneo per il settore del trasporto aereo; piuttosto ha il potenziale per produrre un cambiamento significativo nel trend di crescita economica globale di quest’anno”.
Per quanto riguarda il traffico passeggeri, sia il segmento nazionale che quello internazionale hanno attraversato una convergenza positiva a dicembre, con il mercato domestico che ha registrato un tasso di crescita del 4,9% particolarmente forte, pari a quello del mercato internazionale. Il mercato internazionale è rimasto il principale motore del settore per l’intero anno, tuttavia, registrando un dato preliminare di crescita del 4,1%. Il mercato interno si è attestato nello stesso periodo a +2,8%.
Il Nord America e l’Asia-Pacifico si sono entrambi discostati dalla tendenza di moderazione dei mesi precedenti dicembre, guadagnando rispettivamente +6,4% e +6% su base annua, con i segmenti nazionali e internazionali delle regioni che hanno entrambi ottenuto buoni risultati. I due mercati regionali sono rimasti in linea con la media mondiale per la crescita dell’intero anno, rispettivamente a +3,4% e +3%.
La performance europea è stata più moderata a dicembre, guadagnando il 2,8% su base annua e chiudendo l’anno a +3,2%. Il mercato interno della regione invece fa i conti con risultati decisamente in affanno, in calo per il sesto mese consecutivo, a -1,8% a dicembre e attestandosi a -0,2% per il 2019.
Tra i mercati regionali emergenti, l’Africa ha continuato a funzionare particolarmente bene. Il tasso di crescita di dicembre ha raggiunto il 6%, vicino al dato di fine anno preliminare del +6,7%. Sia il segmento nazionale che quello internazionale sono cresciuti a un ritmo simile nel 2019, chiudendo l’anno rispettivamente con +6,8% e +6,5% rispettivamente.
Il Medio Oriente ha guadagnato il 4,6% a dicembre, portando il risultato di fine anno a +3,3%. L’America Latina-Caraibi ha compensato con il suo mercato interno – cresciuto del 3,1% durante il mese – la debole performance del segmento internazionale, chiudendo l’anno con una crescita del 3,7%.
Per quanto riguarda il traffico merci, i dati di dicembre, su base annua, sono stati relativamente incoraggianti. Il trasporto domestico ha registrato un aumento di sei punti percentuali nel mese, raggiungendo il +4,5% su base annua. I risultati di fine anno del segmento hanno raggiunto il +1,3%. Il trasporto internazionale è rimasto negativo durante il mese, registrando un calo del 2,1%. I risultati di fine anno in questo segmento si sono attestati al -4,1%.
Sebbene l’Asia-Pacifico abbia registrato una crescita dell’1,4% a dicembre, i risultati preliminari di fine anno sono rimasti piuttosto al di sotto degli altri mercati principali, a -4,3%. L’Europa ha registrato un +0,6% per il mese, raggiungendo il -2,4% a fine anno.
Il Nord America ha registrato un +0,2% a dicembre e ha chiuso l’anno con -0,5%, supportato dal suo forte mercato interno. Sebbene la tendenza alla crescita della regione sia stata instabile negli ultimi sei mesi, è rimasta il mercato principale con le migliori prestazioni nel 2019.
Nei mercati emergenti, dicembre è stato un mese piuttosto difficile. Il Medio Oriente ha registrato una contrazione del 4,5% rispetto a dicembre 2018, raggiungendo complessivamente -2,8% per tutto il 2019. L’Africa è diminuita del 4,7%, portando il risultato di fine anno a -0,2%. America Latina e Caraibi hanno subito una flessione particolarmente forte a dicembre, -5,5%, a causa dell’indebolimento del mercato internazionale. Il risultato di fine anno della regione si è attestato a -3,5%.
“Le cifre del mese potrebbero mostrare la calma prima della tempesta – ha aggiunto Angela Gittens -. Sebbene le previsioni sulla crescita economica globale nel 2020 avessero inizialmente previsto una ripresa dalle prestazioni più deboli del 2019, lo shock improvviso rappresentato dall’epidemia COVID-19 potrebbe reprimere tale ripresa e prolungare il periodo di pressione al ribasso sul settore del trasporto aereo di merci”.
