Airbus: primo volo per Vahana, elettrico e autopilotato
Vahana, il primo velivolo completamente elettrico, autopilotato e a decollo e atterraggio verticale, ha compiuto il suo primo volo. Un volo di 53 secondi durante il quale il velivolo ha raggiunto un’altezza di 5 metri prima di scendere in piena sicurezza. Vahana è stato realizzato da A³, società della Silicon Valley sussidiaria di Airbus, che vorrebbe arrivare ad una versione commerciale del velivolo entro il 2020.
“Oggi celebriamo un grande successo nell’innovazione aerospaziale – ha commentato Zach Lovering, project executive di Vahana -. In soli due anni, Vahana è passato da un concetto a un vero prototipo che ha completato con successo il primo volo”.
Vahana ha un’apertura alare di 6,2 metri, una lunghezza di 5,7 metri e un’altezza di 2,8 metri; il peso al decollo è di 745 chili. Con questo progetto Airbus punta a democratizzare i voli personali: per questo ha creato Vahana Alpha One che sarà in grado di trasportare un passeggero.
